SUMMARY:Disability Equity & Opportunities in the Creative Industries
DESCRIPTION:This seminar provides an opportunity to hear from industry experts\, business owners and individuals on initiatives and pathways for people with disabilities to thrive and succeed in the creative industries. \nThe Northern Ireland creative sector offers a wide range of opportunities from TV\, film\, radio production\, performing arts and digital media\, providing opportunities for innovators to adapt\, revolutionise and reimagine ways to engage and influence today’s audiences. But where do people with disabilities fit in? \nIn the UK\, one in five of the working age population are classified as disabled. Yet a small percentage of those with a disability feel that there are opportunities in the creative industries. For example: \n\nOnly a quarter feel they have access to the contacts and networks needed to progress their creative career (vs. 62% of general respondents).\n88% cite the two biggest barriers s: lack of employer understanding of ‘reasonable adjustments’\, and awareness of disability issues among colleagues. In fact many candidates choose not to disclose disability to potential or current employers.\n\nFormal training in key areas like production techniques\, idea generation\, technical skills\, communication skills\, as well as a general lack of employer engagement are all significant factors. So\, how do we change this? How do we offer genuine opportunity? \nInnovation Factory is very excited to be partnering with BBC\, CINE\,One In Five\, and Triplevision Productions\, to hear about personal journeys and showcase how people with disabilities can access career paths in the Screen and Creative industries in Northern Ireland. \nAttend the event to: \n\nGain insight into opportunities and initiatives that are available to those with disabilities within the screen and creative industries.\nHear from individuals with disabilities who are thriving in the sector.\nGet a fresh perspective and spark inspiration to take the next step on your career path in the creative industries.\nAsk questions and connect with leading experts and like-minded people in the industry.\n\nChair: \nIn addition to a presentations from the BBC\, the event will be chaired by Eamonn Devlin Company Director of One in Five and Triplevision Productions – One in Five is an organisation with disability at its core. SUMMARY:Rewarding Innovation: How to reclaim HMRC’s R&D Tax Credit Incentive.
DESCRIPTION:Workshop Overview: \nThis workshop will be very helpful for businesses that have either already been innovating within their field or who are considering a new project which has an unknown outcome. \nHMRC created the R&D Tax incentive scheme in 2000 and it is now the largest tax incentive that they offer. It is in place to reward innovation and problem-solving for limited companies in the UK & ROI (ROI scheme is governed by Revenue Commissioners). \nIf a business has spent time and capital to solve or attempt to solve a problem which could drive their sector forward\, there is a good chance that they qualify for a tax reclaim.\nThe reclaim can be taken as a deduction to future corporation tax or can also be taken as a cash payment. Businesses who are making losses are also able to claim the benefit. \nThis workshop is facilitated by Amplifi Solutions who work to optimise claims for companies\, whilst ensuring all claims are accurately prepared and defendable under any HMRC or revenue commissioners scrutiny. \nDavid Stewart\, Head of NI Corporate Tax Office\, will speak about how HMRC can support innovative companies and will be on hand to answer any queries. \nClaire Stewart will speak about the support that a commercially minded accountant can give to businesses who are continually looking to evolve. \nFinally\, Pearse McAnallen from Invest NI will be on hand to give some further guidance on what value they can offer to growing companies who are overcoming hurdles in their own business. \nOutput Aims: \n-Does my business qualify?\n-What do I need to be doing to ensure that I qualify in future?\n-Are there any associated costs/barriers?\n-What is the process to making a claim? \nWho is it for ? \n-Young businesses who are creating a new product/service\n-Businesses who are working/have worked on an innovative project\n-Established businesses who have implemented a new process/system\n-Advisors to above businesses \nWho are Amplifi Solutions? \nAmplifi Solutions work with innovative businesses and their advisors across the UK and ROI to provide expertise and technical advice on claiming tax incentives – namely the R&D Tax Credit Scheme. Amplifi have a highly experienced team which includes qualified accountants and technical experts with backgrounds in mechanical engineering\, electrical engineering and software engineering. \n  \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n
