After remaining closed for 40 years, deteriorating and suffering vandalism, AOB was acquired by PlaceFirst in 2014, and working with Tameside MBC plans to revive the building to its former glory were put into place. Over a period of three years, the centre underwent a sympathetic yet innovative renovation, led by architect collective MCAU. It re-opened to customers in May 2017, fast becoming a hotbed of creative and digital entrepreneurs in Ashton-under-Lyne.

Ashton Old Baths transformation was funded by a £1.7 million Heritage Lottery Fund grant, £1 million of European Regional Development Fund and Tameside MBC’s investment into one of its most iconic landmarks.
