In the commercial world we live in protecting your intellectual property is essential.
Whether it’s working with an existing brand, realising a business concept or the naming and presentation of a new product taking the right steps to ‘own’ the signs which distinguish the brand, i.e. your trade marks, could play a key part in protecting the future growth of your business.
Whilst this may seem to be obvious advice, it is surprising how many organisations haven’t adequately protected the brands they trade under, which are essential to the success of their business, leaving them vulnerable to the threat of trade mark infringement.
Together, Brand Specialist Alan Davison and Trade Mark Attorney Cherrie Stewart provide two differing, but equally invaluable, views of the process and the challenges that may be faced when branding or re-branding and experienced insights into how, using both creativity and logic, you can be successful in securing your brand.
The Creativity
Alan has worked for over 30 years as a brand design specialist. By solving the brand challenges for a complete client spectrum of business start-ups to large scale public and private organisations he has received various industry awards for his identity work.
Whether it’s evolving existing brands to achieve new commercial ambitions or devising and developing new name identities he has gained a unique insight into how design can solve the client challenge with original brands that can be trademarked. Now working as an independent brand strategist, Alan is ‘The Brand Gardener’ for selected organisations assisting them grow their businesses. Outside of his commercial responsibilities he also gives design talks to business organisations and the creative industry whilst supporting design development within education.
The Logic
Cherrie is a Chartered UK, Irish and European Union Trade Mark Attorney who specialises in advising brand creators and owners on the protection and enforcement of their trade mark rights. On behalf of her clients, she conducts trade mark clearance searches and obtains trade mark registrations in the UK, Ireland, Europe and throughout the world.
